Services and Programs

What Early Intervention Services are Provided by PIC ?

PIC offers a wide variety of services to meet the needs of children and their families, employing different specialties of early intervention professionals. Our early intervention professionals work closely with you to develop an individualized program that meets the special needs of your child and family. If your child is eligible for services, you will be working with one or more of the following early intervention professionals:

Developmental Specialists - These professionals are trained in the education of young children. They work with your child on problem solving, cooperation, attention, turn taking, behavior, communication, personal-social skills, and play. They are specifically trained to evaluate how the separate areas of development interact and influence one another.

Occupational Therapists - These professionals address movement in the way your child uses hands, arms, and fingers. The OT helps children with special needs in the areas of eating, dressing, and play. The OT may work with your child on eye-hand coordination and reactions to different sensations, such as movement or touch.

Physical Therapists - These professionals address gross motor skills and how your child is learning to use the large muscles of the body to move. The PT gives ideas for handling or special exercises to help your child learn to move in and around his or her environment.

Speech-Language Pathologists - These professionals address the ability to produce speech and use language. The SLP will help your child learn language and how to use it. They may work with children on how to use their cheeks, mouth, and tongue to make sounds. They may also address special needs with feeding issues. SLP's also work with children experiencing hearing loss.
